The American Barbell Power Bar has a shaft made from precision grade alloy steel. The strength of the shaft is tested with every shipment of raw material to ensure we have a consistent 190,000 PSI tensile strength. This attention to detail ensures reliable long-term performance day in and day out. Our selected steel grade for our Power Bars provides very little flex, making it ideal for a variety of max load lifts.
This is an ideal choice for those looking for a powerful precision barbell that will last through the ages.

Better than the bar from "R"
First I bought an Ohio bar and used it for a month. The deep grooves on the sleeves made the stuff on the walls rattle when I put on 45lb plates, made long warm up sessions a literal headache. I started looking for a power bar with smooth sleeves and settled on American Barbell. This bar has slight machining lines in the sleeves that only make I mild ring when you slide the plates, instead of a chain-saw sound. Love it. Sleeve preferences aside, the fit and finish on this bar is top notch. There is zero play and rattle around the bushings, it spins nicely, and the knurling is perfect. Sold my "Ohio" bar after the first workout with this one since I knew it would spend its life leaned against the corner.
I don't deserve a bar this good
65 year old basement lifter here. This thing feels great, spins as well as needed for squats and benches, is tight and quiet, and the overall workmanship is just perfect. I'm not sure about the functional benefit of those recessed welds, but they just look sharp! I lifted for 30 years with a cheapo bar from Body Solid. It started looking raggedy and one day I noticed it was bent when I rolled it. So I bought a very nice 28.5mm, no center knurl, bar from "R", because they are everywhere online. It is a solid bar, and it opened my eyes to the difference between good bars and junk. But, I missed a center knurl for squats, and I was surprised to notice a different feel to 28.5 when bench pressing, so I knew I needed a real 29mm power bar. This time I looked around before pulling the trigger, and I'm glad I did. The 28.5 R bar will be relegated to deadlifts and rows. I'm pretty sure my next bar will be from A.B. The knurling feels tacky, no problem at all. I even tried it for a few deadlifts and
Good Basic Bar
I love the knurling on these bars. It's very grippy without digging into your hands and roughing them up. Perfect for beginners or women who are worried about callouses. Everything else about the bar is good, other than I wish it was 28.5mm, but that's just nitpicking.
American Barbell Power Bar and color LB urethane pro series plates.
The plates are very eye catching, colorful, and awesome. Some on line reviews state that the plates are hard to grip and will slip out of your hand. I have not experienced any of that. Rogue has similar plates but American Barbell urethane plates are a bit thinner and the free shipping was my reason for picking them. My plates arrived in one week secured on a wooden crate delivered by a local shipping company. I don't practice Olympic weight lifting or deadlifting so I am not planning on slamming the weights on the floor . The $ 295 power bar is solid and awesome. No bend or bar whipping, adequate rotation on sleeves. It's the real McCoy compared to the cheap bar at my local gym. I had to reduce my squats by 15- 20 lbs to get use to the real weight. 350 lb squat on my local gym bar is like 330 lbs on American Barbells equipment because its a solid power bar and accurate weights. The knurling is not aggressive and will not tear skin off of you. I can position the bar for a low bar squat without the center knurling tearing my T shirt or skin. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase of American Barbell equipment.
